Please see below a system overview for towing with an A-frame.

  • The system incorporates a control unit positioned on the Motorhome dashboard through which the driver can adjust braking intensity in the towed vehicle.
  • Settings 1 to 9 is provided on the control unit to achieve this.
  • The adjustment caters for varying Motorhome/car weight ratios to give optimum proportional braking performance.
  • The controller houses a solid state gyroscopic sensor, which instantly activates the power brakes in the vehicle, with maximum effort, under emergency braking.
  • A plunge lever provided on the side of the controller, allows the driver to effect manual emergency braking.
  • Illuminated LED lights continually relay information to the driver, indicating the correct operation of the proportional braking system. Alarm sounds if the system fails or the electrical connection is severed.
  • Safety breakaway function is provided through a housing, which contains the ring pin, which in turn is pulled away if the vehicle breaks away from its harness. In this instance power brakes are applied automatically.
  • The Unibrake System utilises the towed vehicle manufactures towing points, hence no heavy metal towing structures are required to be mounted on the car bumpers.
  • All braking functions are contained within the car, thus no heavy braking components are mounted on the A- Frame.
  • A-frames for towing cars are light, easy to attach, can be folded and stored in it’s own bag in the boot of the car.
  • Car battery is continually charged during towing, and is used to power the auxiliary vacuum pump.
  • Unibrake System allows the outfit to be reversed, as required by law without imposing any substantial drag, as is the case with mechanical overrun systems.
  • If you have any questions regarding A-frame towing systems, then please do not hesitate to contact us, we will be more than happy to answer any questions which you may have.
